Munsters House and Car Paper Models

I can barely remember seeing reruns of The Munsters on television when I was just a tot. Both their house and car were truly unique! Now, with much attention to detail, card model designer Dave Winfield has recreated the Munster's home and car in paper. Free papercraft templates for the models may be downloaded from Dave's webpages here and here. The original "Munster Koach" (as the car was named) was designed by George Barris who also designed the 1966 Batmobile.

Collapsible Papercraft Dice Tower

Tim Schutz, an indie game designer from the Pacific Northwest, created this papercraft dice tower to offer as a free download on his website. According to Schutz, the tower "folds flat and can be stored inside your favorite game or in a 6x9 envelope". Nice! The PDF template for the tower may be downloaded here. Hey! Fire Wyvern Origami

Wyverns often appear in English, Scottish, and Irish heraldry. The technical definition of a wyvern is "a winged two-legged dragon with a barbed tail". This origami wyvern was folded from a single 12" square of paper by DeviantART member, Cahoonas. I especially like the design of the wings! The crease pattern for the wyvern can be found here.

Mad Max Interceptor Paper Model

I was watching Mad Max: Fury Road this week and got the itch to post some Mad Max papercraft! I consider this 2007 paper model of Mad Max's car to be one of the best renditions around. The model was created and built by Claudio Dias. A free download of Claudio's template may be found here. The real life car used in the Mad Max movies was a customized 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon coupe (a car that was sold only in Australia). The car is usually referred to as an "interceptor" because it was Mad Max's police car in the first film in the series.

David Bowie Ziggy Stardust Paper Toy

As bizarre as this David Bowie paper toy may seem, it replicates an outfit Bowie wore in 1973 as part of his Ziggy Stardust persona. Bowie's Ziggy Stardust tour in the early 70's is considered by many to have been the creative force that propelled the artist to fame. This tribute paper toy was created by Vic Matos and may be downloaded here.

Soviet MS-1 Tank Paper Model

World of Tanks is a  massively multiplayer online game that features World War II era fighting vehicles. This Soviet MS-1 tank is one of several paper models released by the makers of the game. A PDF of the printable template for the tank may be found here (click on the red text beneath the photo). You will notice the instructions for the model are in Russian, which is understandable given the developer of the game is based in Russia. As far as I know, the template is not available in any other languages. The MS-1 was also known as the "T-18 light tank".

Captain America Paper Model

Another Captain America movie will be released this week! This Captain America paper model was released in 2009 by Action Papercrafts. It has always been one of my favorite papercraft renditions of the good captain. Even though this model is an oldie-but-goodie, the Pepakura PDO template is still available here. The finished model stands 15" (39 cm) tall and includes a display base (not shown).

Princess Celestia, along with her sister, Princess Luna, are co-rulers of Equestria, the land that is the setting for the animated television series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Celestia and her sister are "alicorns" which is the term used on the show for horses that have the characteristics of both a pegasus and a unicorn. This papercraft Celestia was created by DeviantART member Muffinshire and may be downloaded here. Two different Princess Luna paper models were previously posted here and here.

1911 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Paper Model

The level of detail in some paper models is simply amazing. Take this papercraft scale model of a 1911 Harley-Davidson Model 7 for example.  The Model 7 was an intermediate design that bridged the gap between the first motorized bicycles and the modern motorcycle. A free printable PDF template and instructions for the model may be downloaded here. In case you were wondering, the spokes in the wheels are made of sewing thread. As the instructions indicate: "This kit is not intended for beginners!"

Kotatsu Cat Papercraft

In simplest terms, the Japanese kotatsu is a table with a built-in heater underneath. The sides of the table are covered by a blanket to keep the heat inside.  Most understandably, in the wintertime Japanese cats enjoy napping on kotatsus. This papercraft recreates such a scene. Although released in 2008, this free paper model is still available here as a promotional item from the Yamaha company.

Sith Holocron Paper Model

In the Star Wars universe, both the Jedi and the Sith make use of holocrons. Holocrons are devices that store valuable information in holographic form. This paper model is of a Sith holocron which takes the form of a pyramid. In contrast, Jedi holocrons are typically cubes. The Pepakura PDO template for this holocron  may be found here.

X-Men Blackbird Jet Paper Model

In the Marvel Comics universe, the X-Men use a jet that is a modified version of the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird. The X-Men's Blackbird was upgraded by the tech savvy mutant, Forge, to include, among other things, a cloaking device. This paper model of the X-jet was created by Claudio Dias and may be downloaded here.

3D Papercraft Joker Mask

If I were looking for a Joker mask that is most true to how the villain appears in the pages of Batman comic books, I would look no further than this mask. The Joker's insanely evil personality is captured perfectly in the facial expression of the mask. But be warned, this papercraft is not for beginners. As the author explains, certain parts of the mask have no gluing tabs, so improvisation is required when gluing the mask together. The Pepakura PDO template for the mask may be downloaded here.

Origami Unicorn

Origami artist Jo Nakashima has dozens and dozens of origami tutorials on his YouTube channel. Here is one of my favorites from the bunch: a unicorn! Jo's videos have a slow, careful pace that is helpful for those less skilled in the art (like myself ^^).  Other origami tutorials by Jo include dragons, dinosaurs, rabbits, insects, and even a capybara!

Official Disney Papercraft: Nemo

It took 13 years, but Pixar and Disney have finally produced a sequel to Finding Nemo. The new movie, titled Finding Dory, is set to be released June 17th. Looking to celebrate with some papercraft? ^^ This official paper model of Nemo is offered for free at the Disney Family website (here). Instructions on the website claim the model can be built in 15 minutes!

Totoro Paper Toys

Finally, someone has made some easy to build Totoro papercrafts! This collection of paper toys from Cubefold is titled "Forest Spirits". Included in the collection are Oh-Totoro (gray), Chuu-Totoro (blue), Chibi-Totoro (white), and a group of three soot sprites (or dust bunnies as some like to call them). Each of the characters appear in the 1988 Studio Ghibli animated movie, My Neighbor Totoro.

Frank Lloyd Wright Guggenheim Museum Paper Model

Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the early 1940's, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has become a landmark building in New York City. Completed in 1959, the building was extensively renovated in 1992. As part of the renovation a 10 story limestone tower was added at the rear of the complex. This paper model of the Guggenheim was created by Regína Orálková. A copy of her PDF template may be downloaded here.

Printable Castle Dice Tower

I am always on the lookout for papercraft dice towers. Found one! This printable tower is in the form of a castle (quite appropriate for medieval themed RPG games that make use of dice). Dice are dropped in the top and, by way of baffles inside, the dice are neatly rolled without falling off the table. The pattern for the tower was created by Marc Vela and may be downloaded here (click on the word "Descargar"). Instructions are available in Spanish only.
